Simsbury, Connecticut

Konover Development wanted the proposed 60-acre River Oaks project in Simsbury, CT, to apply the principles of traditional neighborhood design to its 1,000,000 sf mixed-use development. Residences, shops and commercial office space needed to be well integrated in this new neighborhood at the base of Avon Mountain. Amenta Emma complied by matching the scale and character of the building to the mixture of residential, retail and commercial structures in close proximity to the site. Street width to building height was carefully considered, as well as the principles of Transects. Characteristically local brownstone and red asphalt roofing were used deliberately and deftly to be sympathetic to the local architecture.
